Liebert's Darkest Work | Horror Review

THINGS UNKNOWN by Travis Liebert is another collection of stories belonging to The Shattered God Mythos. These stories are far darker than the ones found in THINGS UNDONE. The first story just about wrecked me, especially as a parent. Casual readers of the horror genre might not have the stomach for many of these stories...consider that a content warning.

Many of these stories have connections to previous shorts released by the author. I strongly recommend reading ALL of Liebert's previous shorts in order to appreciate the characters and their motives in these stories.

With all that said, I highly recommend this to all horror fans.

Things Week | Shattered God | Horror Review | AstraDaemon

THINGS UNDONE by Travis Liebert is a collection of 18 frightening tales, some of which I've read previously as short story stand-alones (but they are remain as horrifying as the first read). The author adds an extra layer of terror by adding a verse from an ancient text about the Shattered God parts.

Many of these stories make me wonder why people spend so much time carrying on about HP Lovecraft and Stephen King, when there is so much gruesome entertainment to be had with this new generation of storytellers.

If you enjoy movies such as In the Mouth of Madness or creatures found in the films of Guillermo del Toro, I urge you to add this one to your horror shelf.

Frenemy | AstraDaemon

THE DARK WEB by Travis Liebert is a flash fiction nightmare about a young boy who befriends a stranger on the internet. I blame the parents for everything that follows.

The ending is a little too simplistic for my liking, and this story doesn't even come close to my expectations for the author's dark creations. However, I do recommend WE CALLED IT RAPHAEL for a better idea of what Liebert is capable of conjuring between a boy and a monster.

Over Too Soon | AstraDaemon

HOME SWEET HOME by Travis Liebert is flash fiction piece, with chilling suspense, but it's over far too quickly to be truly terrifying. Other than a disembodied voice and a night terror, the author never really gets into the horrors contained by the house.

If you've never read this author's work before before, I encourage you to read Badwater by Liebert instead of this story, to get a better idea of what he can create.

Honeymoon Cut Short | AstraDaemon

THE GROVE by Travis Liebert is a flash fiction piece about a couple who find themselves stranded in the middle of the Black Forest and soon discover they are not alone. Eric suspects something is stalking them, but Amanda refuses to consider anything out of the ordinary. The ending is gruesome.

Liebert can always be counted on for a good creature feature...this one is like a mix of Hellraiser and Lord of the Rings.

Pandora's Descendant | AstraDaemon

THE LITTLE GOD by Travis Liebert is also in his collection, THINGS UNDONE (which I have, but haven't read it yet). I absolutely love this author's writing style, and this story is no exception. Unfortunately, this one is extremely short. I hoped the narrator would at least try to undo his mistake, but he seems to have lost all hope rather quickly.

In any case, this is an entertaining piece of cosmic horror. I also recommend WE CALLED IT RAPHAEL by Liebert.

Angel of Death

WE CALLED IT RAPHAEL by Travis Liebert begins with a young man looking back on an event which takes place during his teenage years. Knowing he survives the horrifying experience doesn't make it any less frightening.

The description of their discovery is similar to something one might find in a movie by Guillermo del Toro, but far more threatening. I don't know why the narrator would ever return to the shed.

Definitely a must-read for all horror fans. I also recommend Liebert's  BADWATER.
