The staff at Amber Lake care home are sadly familiar with death. However, the death of one particular woman is shrouded in mystery, darkness and harrowing memories.
As she sorts through the belongings left behind, what will staff member Catherine learn about the mysterious old woman?
RAINBOWS by Kyle J. Franklin is not the horror story I expected, but this short is full of suspense and dread. The details with the diaries and the storm are great touches, and I felt as though I were in the apartment with Catherine, looking over her shoulder. The ending is quite a surprise, but the message from the author is well-received.

Microscopic Invasion
THE WILL OF ARANAXXIS by Kyle J. Franklin begins with a slow setup, much of which is unnecessary. While disturbing, with a Lovecraft creepiness, not much takes place in the story. Readers never learn much about the mystery behind the meteorite, and there isn't much dialogue or action between the characters.
Instead of this short, I recommend STAY WITH US by Franklin, similar to 80s horror.

Night Thief
WILLOWS by Kyle J. Franklin will have readers thinking twice before driving and parking at night. I found this story more cruel than frightening, but Mick's situation still had me thoroughly creeped out.
The author blends suspense and folklore to create a night terror not soon forgotten. If you like this kind of story, I recommend Franklin's STAY WITH US.

Permanently Benched
STAY WITH US by Kyle J. Franklin follows a boy named Robert into a clearing with a notorious reputation. Even though he has heard of people going missing in the clearing, he is determined to perform the midnight challenge to impress a girl.
The author doesn't reveal much, but readers will feel Robert's terror just the same. The suspense reminds me of the horror stories I read as a kid in the 80s, making the story one of those rare ones I can recommend to readers of any age...as long as one does not have a fear of the dark.
