CHILDREN OF THE NIGHT by Randy Norton is total crap. Some kids get together with a homemade ouija board to summon a spirit. When they make contact with something, it's like a fart in the wind. I couldn't believe it ended without anything happening.
I've now read three of Norton's stories, and I'm convinced The Shimmer Effect is the exception in his work. I'm done with this author.

Disappointing In So Many Ways
Jason crouched in the bushes! Trying to sneak a peek at Lisa could get him landed in jail. It didn't matter about their earlier encounter. Jason was quickly becoming obsessed with the lonely housewife. Lisa might live in a million dollar home on Lake George, NY but it was still a prison of sorts. Expected to be home when Jonas Brown called to check in at noon everyday! It was nightfall now. All he wanted was one more quick look before he left...
The Darkness by Randy Norton is mostly erotica and very little to do with horror. After reading The Shimmer Effect, I wanted to read another story by the same author, but I'm disappointed to discover Norton's writing style isn't consistent.

Ghouls Are The New Zombies
Imagine having dark dreams that permeate your life. One man goes in search of help with a online ad. What he finds out changes his outlook forever. When he finds out ghouls are real it might be his salvation.
The Shimmer Effect by Randy Norton is a very original short story with a fascinating twist on the history of ghouls. While the story is told from a man suffering from night terrors who encounters the ghouls, I think the author should seriously consider writing a full-length novel, or a novella, at the very least.
The horror genre needs more of Norton's creatures. I think his ghouls could be the new zombie.
