Wahrer's Ad

Tsarevna and her team of raiders prowl the fringes, making excursions into Ashamine controlled space to prey on merchant vessels. When they discover an abandoned Ashamine battle cruiser, the pirates know the tech and resources on board will make them unimaginably rich. After boarding, however, Tsarevna discovers exactly why the human empire abandoned the massive ship, changing her existence forever.

Enthralled by Zachariah Wahrer is sci-fi flash fiction piece intended to tempt readers to read his series, the Dawn Saga. I must admit, I'm left with several questions and the series does look promising, but I wish the story had more to offer than a mere teaser.

Kindle Spamming

After a hundred of years of overpopulation and resource scarcity on Earth, the Generation program dispatches its first ship. The large vessel, Generation-01, is destined to colonize the Trappist system, 40 light years away. In transit, however, the crew encounters an unforeseen difficulty, jeopardizing their dreams for a new future. Will they find a solution, or will Generation-01 be pulled into the depths of a massive star?

Gen-01 by Zachariah Wahrer has an interesting concept, but this flash fiction piece pales in comparison to Wahrer's other short stories. It seems like he wrote a few pages of "story" just to advertise his sci-fi novel series. I chose the story to be entertained, but now I feel spammed.

This type of bait and switch is happening more and more with Kindle stories on Amazon, with both short stories and novels...readers expecting a decent story, only to be greeted with promos from the author. Granted, authors can do whatever they like with their e-files, but it's ridiculous when the advertisements take up more space than the actual story.

Wahrer 2017

After reading The Hunter, a suspense-thriller, by Zachariah Wahrer last year, I decided to read a couple more of his short stories...

Diesel left me with mixed feelings...I expected Wahrer to be more original, but instead he begins with stereotypical characters and a mundane setting...the author almost lost me, but the airport scene truly had me on edge. I don't even think I breathed until the very last word.

Utopia Gone, on the other hand, is a science fiction piece...Wahrer's best story of the three I've read. The psychological and sociological aspects mixed with the dystopian future in space are quite interesting. I think Wahrer should consider expanding this story into a novel, or a novella, at the very least.

Sunday Suspense: The Hunter [Review]

Ben is a normal, hardworking guy. He loves ATVs, the outdoors, and most of all, hunting. While pursing his favorite activity, he shoots and wounds a bull elk. It runs away, and Ben chases deeper into the woods. Instead of the elk though, Ben finds something decidedly creepy, something that changes him forever.

The Hunter by Zachariah Wahrer is great short story. The hook comes in the form of a lost hunter, and, by the time the main character realizes he is in trouble, it's too late for him to help himself. This story has a Cabin In The Woods feel to it towards the end. The Hunter is a story I wouldn't mind being turned into a full-length novel.

There is also another story included, the beginning of a new series, but I was only interested in The Hunter.

Wahrer shows some serious potantial in the suspense genre. He is an author I will be keeping my eyes on...
